The Program:

DESHJURE is unique in approach to news – reaching out to the people of Bangladesh, wherever they might be.

DESHJURE has been presented as a magazine format program, presenter-led, studio-based and including everything from Daily Nationwide News Reports to a wide range of News Features on subjects such as Agriculture, Education, Health, Family Planning, Good Governance, and Human Rights – not to mention, Cultural Life, with Melas & Music, Folk Dance & Film, Storytelling & Drama, Comedy & Sports. Heritage and Environment have also been covered.

In a carefully structured and entertaining way, DESHJURE is by and about the people of Bangladesh – day by day – region by region – in the smaller towns and villages of our country, the places which rarely, if ever, make it on to the front page – but where 85% of the population live and work.

The final objective of DESHJURE is to fashion itself into a program that, for the first time, opening a window on the wider world we live in, building bridges between the four corners of our land. The program has created a countrywide network stretching from village to village, from town to town – from the smallest Gram Porishad to the Thana and District level : carrying stories that can be seen and heard by the whole nation.

In this, EKUSHEY TELEVISION is working with Government and Non-Government Agencies as well as regional, District and Municipal Administrations to develop a solid support infrastructure around the country and to ensure the expertise to provide quality, accuracy and validity to the content of DESHJURE.

DESHJURE is about people – by people, for people – about positive and pro-active news about a country and a population on the move.

Format:

DESHJURE has been presented from the Ekushey Studios in Dhaka – relaxed, non-formal, bright set with simple flat-based backdrop with presenter.

The presenter created the style and feel of the program – and introduced the reports and features that run through each show. The presentation is almost conversational. Allowing humor, personal observation and, to a degree, ad lib scripting The “you know…..” – storytelling style also allow a certain one-on-one intimacy between the presenters and the audience.

DESHJURE is modular in its construction – with clear cut sections, scheduled in such a way that viewers will know, for example, that every day there is a segment on Rights.

The Content:

· Sangbad Protibedon (News Feature) :

News from all around the country – many of the stories that might never make the front page of the national media but are essential and important information for most viewers. Stories and interviews have been culled from reports in newspapers and news services as well as those sent in by Ekushey Television’s local correspondents. We call the segment DESHER KHOBOR.

· Amar Odhikar (Rights)

Rights time AMAR ODHIKAR is one of the most important sections in DESHJURE that is designed to build awareness about issues that concern the quality and content of everybody’s life: the right to education, the right to good health, the right to food, the right to justice – among many of the rights that is the due of all men, women and children in society- regardless of age or gender, race or religion.

For example, DESHJURE feature team covered health and education, as well as issues such as discrimination against women and girls, rape and sexual harassment and problems relating to child labor.

On Women Rights, Rights Time addressed issues such as the right to primary education, protection from forced marriages and dowry payments, access to medical and legal assistance, and equal job opportunities and play .

On Health & Family Planning, the right to healthy life projected and there will be a special series on such issues such as the r-productive systems, the rights to safe motherhood, as well as a series on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS.

The Rights to Education focus on both formal and non-formal education, as well as many aspects of vocational training opportunities. There will also be element of language training included in this section.

· Amar Gram (My Village)

DESHJURE covers one village each week in a way “This week’s village…..”.

· Shapholyo Gantha (Success Story)

It’s all about the people and organizations who have achieved success in different sectors in spite of social, economic and physical constraints.

· Heritage / Environment

DESHJURE covers the places of historical importance which are very close to our culture. DESHJURE portrays the present situation of these places and gives emphasis on preservation of the places. These stories surely do interest the viewers to visit those places and thus helps the tourism sector. DESHJURE also covers different environmental issues.

· Cholar Pothey (On The Way)

DESHJURE shooting team who are roving around the country, cover interesting stories on their way to cover the main features.

· Sanskriti Sangbad (Cultural News)

In the lives of many people who live in the rural areas – in the smaller towns and villages – there is no Language Day, Victory Day, Valentines Daym, or even Pohela Baishakh. But the people have their own festival, their own way to celebrate the many special and important events in their lives. Villages and districts can be very different from each.

DESHJURE explores these many different aspects of life in Bangladesh – through their eyes and words of the people themselves. The name of the segment is Shanskriti Shangbad.

· Jibon-O-Jibika (Livelihood)

Agriculture and fishing are the mainstays of the economy – and where most people’s lives are focused. But there are also weavers, potters and other occupations that exists mainly in the rural areas. This section Jibon-O-Jibika is about work and employment – about jobs and development issues – about new ideas and trends in all sectors of the rural workplace.

· Entertainment

Music and Song, Poetry and Drama, Theatre and Comedy, Film and TV: this is the food of life in most people’s hard-working lives. DESHJURE’s Ananda Ahar set out to entertain and amuse in this section – featuring, for example, Baul, Bhatiali, Bhawaia, Jatra, Kobial and Pala, as well as Circus and other Games/Sports.
